Nobody asked me but if you find some of the old typing drills we Olds did in "keyboarding class", dust off a typewriter or manual (or semi-mechanical) word processesor, and give them to your 90s obsessed tween, you might not need to pay for summer camp.

(I am sure some, perhaps many, schools, offer touch typing and keyboarding classes, but it's very obvious to me that not enough people actually take touch typing classes because so many people type so slowly.)

My high school “keyboarding” class was the most important one I took
I asked my brother and SIL about this, and my nieces do not have typing classes. They hunt/peck, which is fucking wild considering how important typing is. The school seems to assume they'll just...pick it up on their own?

Millennials had internet and keyboarding classes in elementary school. I don’t know what birth year that means, but I think that’s the actual difference. X got through college with typewriters/computers with no net. Xennials did keyboarding in jr high and got internet in high school/college.

I have made more money off my single keyboarding class than my entire college education.
Once I learned to touch type, and could pass typing tests, that qualified me for sooooooo many jobs.

My take on the cursive discourse is that the most important class I took in high school was typing. I can’t believe how many teens and twentysomethings I see hunt-and-pecking their way around a keyboard. Everyone should be taught touch typing!

Every single gen X scrub had two years of high school typing class and hunt and pecks 20 wpm. Every single millennial never had formal instruction and types perfect form 100 wpm because of AIM

I don’t understand why more engineers aren’t outraged that they were targeted to receive a standard substandard professional education that enabled them to program the new machines, but not to understand the social assemblages and responsibilities that this programming entangled them into.
