Taele is charged in Los Angeles Superior Court with firearms-related crimes and a 2025 robbery. He was granted $250,000 bail in that case.

Taele was detained after being seen taking photos and video of security-planning activities ahead of President Trump's visit to the golf club today. LASD deputies found ammunition in Taele's pocket, searched his vehicle, and seized a loaded pistol with a round chambered and a loaded magazine. A search of Taele's residence seized high-powered firearms, ammunition, body armor, and a notebook. Taele is charged in Los Angeles Superior Court with firearms-related crimes and a 2025 robbery. He was granted $250,000 bail in that case. He is expected to make his initial appearance in the United States District Court in Los Angeles soon after his transfer to federal custody. While we are still investigating this individual's motives, we are thankful he was apprehended before the President's visit. lasdhq ••• MESSAGE FROM THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT The Department is aware and deeply concerned about an incident that occurred at a local coffee shop in the city of Norwalk on Friday, January 9th, in which a deputy, who had stopped for coffee, was deliberately served a cup bearing a hand-drawn image of a pig, which is commonly used to demean law enforcement. This action was extremely offensive, inappropriate, and unacceptable. The deputy quickly reported the incident to the store manager, who advised that the matter would be investigated. Upon learning about this incident from the employee, the Sheriff immediately escalated the matter and contacted an individual in the coffee company's corporate security division to formally raise concerns and to ensure accountability. In addition, the Sheriff spoke directly with the deputy to check on his well-being, convey his full support, and make it clear that disrespectful actions will not be tolerated against our personnel. Our deputies serve this community with professionalism, dedication, and commitment, often under difficult and dangerous circumstances. Our deputies are part of the community and deserve to be treated respectfully and with basic human dignity.
