The Queen of Spain has invaded. British visits of this gorgeous golden-coloured butterfly with distinctively shaped, squared-off hindwings have been recorded by lepidopterists for four centuries.
This year thousands have flown in, some from France & Spain & others from the Netherlands.

“Unlike many people her age, Violet does not use social media — that is, unless you count @inaturalist.bsky.social, the citizen-science app where she identifies moths with the help of other lepidopterists. For her, the study of moths is not about influence or clout.”

I would also ask the lepidopterists of the world to cut it out
New, from me: Kimberly Guilfoyle was caught soliciting money for government favors. Normally we call that a bribe. If she is corrupt, it is only because she has adapted to Trump's corrupt environment, where everything is for sale. 🧵

Thanks look up 'Lepidopterists' sugar' there are many recipes - mine is a mixture of over-ripe bananas, black treacle, sugar and some beer or wine warmed gently then painted on a log or tree trunk

Looks too fluffy to fly. I like the idea that somewhere in a wood paneled pub in England there are a bunch of Lepidopterists arguing over pints about this little guy.

Unrelatedly, 🚨🚨COOL BUG JOB ALERT🚨🚨
arthropod biodiversity at good ol’ Cal! I think lepidopterists are encouraged (in the Jerry Powell tradition) but for sheer “biodiversity” we can all admit beetles deserve this

8/24/1884: Annette Braun, one of the most accomplished lepidopterists (she studied moths), is born. She was the first woman to earn a PhD from UC. Her younger sister Lucy was third. Braun was a trustee of the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History. Two species of moths are named after her.

I've done Butterfly Conservation's #BigButterflyCount for several years, despite recording every week for another project, but this is the first time I've seen nothing. However, can anyone of you #lepidopterists identify this, seen a few weeks ago? #lepidoptera #butterflies
