#libusb
I somehow missed this but the WebAssembly backend for libusb (and therefore WebUSB) was officially merged in 1.0.27. Wasm all the things!

ugh, libusb is *so bad* T~T

Nobody:

Absolutely nobody:

My mind: Huh so node-usb implements WebUSB. One can compile node-usb to Wasm. node-usb uses libusb. libusb has Wasm backend. Wasm backend uses WebUSB. WebUSB is implemented via libusb on some platforms [...]

My parents' printer can either connect to wifi via WPS (which eero doesn't support because it's terrifyingly insecure) or through a Windows app communicating over USB which is just throwing errors so I guess it's going to be USB protocol dumping and libusb time

libusb 1.0.27-rc1 is out - this is the first official release candidate with my WebAssembly + WebUSB backend, with the official release coming soon!

wow programming for native WinUSB isn't as bad as i thought. very Windows-y full of Windows-isms but it isn't *bad*...

somewhat surprised libusb doesn't support just interfacing with the WinUsb driver directly but i guess the concepts don't necessarily match 1:1

scrcpy 4.1 enhances Android screen mirroring with VP8/VP9 video encoders, FFmpeg 8.1.2, SDL 3.4.12, libusb 1.0.30, and usability improvements. It offers better performance, stability, and workflow features, improving Android device control.

Finally found a use for my Arduino. Turns out you can replace the firmware on its usb controller so it can emulate different types of USB device. Pretty useful for tinkering with libusb.

I came into possession of this bump bar. Been trying to figure out how to macro its inputs into short cuts but can not figure out how lol. Might try libusb in #CPP but I’m better of just using an #arduino at this point #programming #gamedev #indiedev

Emscripten is honestly incredible, there is even a libusb backend

You can basically yoink any PC program and run it in your browser

what is even the reason for high level hardware drivers to run in kernelspace on linux. on windows there's like a few cases it's needed (winusb and hid shit sucked so badly until mid way through windows 10) but why linux. libusb is smo nice

Can also interact with it on modern Windows by using libusb instead of the pclcd.sys x86 XP driver. Works for reading, but I haven't figured out how to draw to it yet. I have no idea how I got the last few lines to work here, and I haven't been able to replicate it since.

Whew, as part of a fun contract nearing the end made a large PR to libusb to update my WebAssembly + WebUSB backend. github.com/libusb/libus...

Includes lots of improvements, most notably multithreading support via Emscripten's proxying API and the recently added co_await for JavaScript promises.

this is actually extremely annoying because now i think libusb can't claim it anymore. great.
OH MACOS JUST GAINED PROPER SUPPORT FOR USB WIRED GAME CONTROLLERS ACTUALLY??

i’ve been prototyping yet new input code recently. no more smx sdk; came up with my own solution using the same low-level usb library that i believe itg uses to communicate with piuio (libusb). it’s working quite well for me.

I made a synthesizer! This is written in C, using libusb, portmidi, SDL, etc. - the hardest part was to get something onto the screen. I wrote more about this on my blog: kaikuehne.net/chordel/
