it's possible no one grumbles or does weird shit to me when I'm masked because I'm huge and therefore potentially scary, but also maybe it's just Seattle so nobody wants to look at people anyway

Theatre Lane car park to reopen on October 31 with reduced capacity as light rail works progress
The Theatre Lane car park in Canberra's city centre is set to reopen on Sunday, October 31, 2026, after being closed since October 2025. The reopening will restore 57 two-hour parking spots, though the car park will be more than 70 per cent smaller than before, with a significant portion now occupied by the construction site for a new lyric theatre. Parking will be free after 5.30pm from Wednesday to Sunday. The eastern section of London Circuit and the Theatre Lane car park are due to reopen to motorists, allowing travel along the eastern part of London Circuit and turning left onto Northbourne Avenue for the first time since the road closed in early 2025. Work on the track slab for the light rail extension between Alinga Street and Commonwealth Park is now complete, with the project on schedule. The government has confirmed that works on the three new light rail stops have recently been completed, with columns and canopies in place and platform fit-out underway. Scaffolding at City South and Commonwealth Park stops will begin to come down in the coming weeks, and a unique artwork for the Edinburgh Avenue stop will be installed by local artist Hannah Quinlivan later this year. Construction work on stage 2A of Canberra's light rail is due to be finished in the first half of 2027, with a testing and commissioning period before passengers can use the light rail between Gungahlin and Commonwealth Park in 2028. The Theatre Lane car park closure in October 2025 stripped the city of 203 public car spaces, prompting condemnation from surrounding business owners and operators. Over 800 people signed a petition to the Legislative Assembly opposing the full closure, but the government maintained that a partial access model was impossible. The new lyric theatre building is due to reach its full height early next year and open in mid-2028, with Multiplex set to install structural steel and commence facade works at the beginning of the year. Cranes will remain active on site as materials are delivered and lifted into place to support the next stage of construction.
