I love little bits of outrageous local folklore like this.

Yeah, sure – until some ninth century village in Nottinghamshire invented pancakes, no-one in the entire history of human civilisation had stumbled across the concept of “flat batter”.

I remember him during the 1984/85 miners' strike. He visited Linby striking miners' soup kitchen to give them support. The Notts strikers were boosted by his warm, relaxed and down to earth manner.

Or, you could put your foot down and say NO to AI slop. I’ve been using Linby for ages, across three different libraries, mostly for audiobooks and I do NOT want anything to do with AI, not for cover or internal ‘art’, not for ‘writing’, and not for ‘narration’.

The River Leen runs from Newstead Abbey, through Papplewick and Linby, then into the city through Bulwell, Basford, and Lenton before it joins the River Trent.
How a 'forgotten' river shaped Nottingham - BBC News
A new exhibition highlights how the 15-mile River Leen played a role in the development of the city.

Poplar buds emerging at Linby Ranges, showing their early reddish catkins - a typical mid March stage. Look for the long, textured catkins and glossy pointed buds sitting close to the twig: classic early spring Poplar ID

Let us know where you have spotted them!

🌿 Oak buds at Linby Trail, beginning to swell in early April.

Oaks break bud later than many trees, but those tight clusters of rounded buds at the twig tips are a classic spring ID feature.

Spring is already waiting here 🌱

Where have you spotted Oaks in bud?
