Today is a big day for the arena, as many death sentences have been handed down in recent weeks, and they are being carried out today.

"She exudes a dark and nasty aura" -- I guess we see why he didn't win the Nobel for literature, that's just bad writing. Maybe he should read something by a person who is good with words like Anne Carson.

Do we still need an "African Literature" shelf? Is there any literature that works best in that shelf rather than the writing genre to which it belongs? E.g., fantasy? Romance? Crime? Satire? Historical fiction? Etc?

Thoughts?
There is no such thing as “African” literature. African writers write a multitude of genres from different geographies, perspectives, disciplines, motivations & in different languages. The problem is the “African literature” shelf that expects it to be only one thing

‘African’ is a problematic identity marker at best, but not a literary genre.

We love literature because it connects minds. To pump the mediocre slurry of regurgitated stolen ideas onto pages & call the results books is to tragically miss the point of why we read at all. Slightly rephrasing an LLM's ideas & calling the work your own isn't writing, it's lipsyncing.

Writing a paper in English is, to me, fairly straightforward. I read the material, come up with a thesis, do a lot of thinking and back it up with citations.

Writing a social work literature review requires me to write a sentence, look up the citation, write another sentence, look up the cite,

That is some damn fine writing, and reminds me of why I once studied literature, and may do so, again.

Thank you.

He does downplay the Wehrabooism from his 1984 writing in his 2002 writing, so it's not that he didn't engage with the change in literature. He also covers the phase where Nazi power underwent collapse and where the starch went out of it and he doesn't sugarcoat that.
