If their are going to work on themselves, I have no doubts: Ørberg's Lingua Latina per se illustrata (LLPSI). Plenty of resources online. Check also @minimuslatin.bsky.social and @legonium.bsky.social .
To my colleagues in #Classics teaching in English: A PhD student of mine is searching for English-language summer schools to improve their basic Latin skills, within the EU, or good online resources or books to improve their Latin on their own. Any advice or experiences to share?

every year, ch 5 of LLPSI is a dud, and we end up just doing a semi-related story ask for our anchor text instead. This year, the kids really brought it.

We started LLPSI 3 in Latin 1 today. I can do a really shrill and annoying “Lalla,” such that when I said “Marcus Iuliam pulsat,” the entire class broke out into applause.

A few of these stories (in slideshow form) doubled as a warmup for my high schoolers before they read LLPSI chapters that alluded to or retold myths that might be unfamiliar to them. That was the reasoning behind Polycrates, Arion, Midas, and Orpheus.

Is anybody else reading Auda, Daniel Pettersson’s novella-in-progress on the Legentibus app? It’s meant to be read along with the first few capitula of LLPSI and uses that as its core vocabulary, though the grammar is less sheltered.

My two visual aid prep modes: needlessly elaborate and time consuming paper model of a villa (LLPSI cap. V), or the worst stick figures you’ve ever seen (cap. VI).

Have you gotten through a basic Latin textbook like LLPSI or Wheelock's, but you hit a wall with authentic texts? Tiered readers get you reading real Latin as soon as possible, without poring over lexicons and commentaries ( = working in English, not Latin).

I’m impressed with how much SUSPENSE Pettersson has been able to create while still mostly using the early LLPSI vocab.

I think I'm also more predisposed toward 📚 bc last year I briefly dipped my toes into Latin via LLPSI. My current project has completely taken away any time for Latin, but LLPSI clicked + knowing 🇧🇷🇷🇺 made it easier. I recently found a similar book called "Swedish: An Elementary Grammar-Reader"

if i had a zillion dollars i would commission *so* many LLPSI clones. Osweald Bera was life-changing for me and i don't even particularly care about Old English

BTW Check out Legentibus, an audiobook app for Latin - they have the whole LLPSI in a very clear and pleasant pronunciation - I really enjoyed listening to a chapter after I had read it for review (also lots of other stuff). And this www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrWT...
