It cannot be stressed enough that many of SE's own competitors don't invest nearly as much in their LQA process and it shows. Many times, LQA is limited purely to technical checks, if that, and I've had games come out where I wasn't allowed to be involved in LQA and the difference is pronounced.

QA in localization is referred to as LQA, or "linguistic quality assurance." This process can take different forms depending on which publisher you're talking about. Sometimes it's purely a functionality check (ie: does text stay within windows, etc.), sometimes it's deeper. SE's LQA is the latter.

Looks like the translation and LQA were handled by completely uncredited and likely perma-NDA-bound freelancers at DICO and Keywords.

Don’t Ballardize my LQA
Wrapping up with Jack Whisner, who Cathy Moore just appointed to the transportation levy oversight board, asking for the city to cut bus service to Uptown to serve Sunset Hill instead (a much lower density area).

I am once again the shirtless runner in your neighborhood (LQA->Belltown)

Repeat after us: 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀.

• Nothing is linear
• You often get the texts in disarray
• Different UIs, menus, dialog styles mean different contexts
• Also no one can translate more than 2-3k words a day without sacrificing quality, proofreading & LQA.
Sometimes I wonder why people say Reddit is a cesspool.

Then I read things like this, and I get it.

Even on the less glamorous projects, Square has always been remarkably insistent we freelancers be involved in the LQA process and paid accordingly, which is quite rare. SE QA runs a tight ship that has always made our material better and their jobs especially deserve protection in this climate.

You can save money by hiring an individual - but then you often sacrifice LQA (localization quality assurance) and risk angering the people in that target language. Meanwhile there are cheap agencies, but they pay workers peanuts and often won't credit them. Good work costs good money!

Ofrecen 8 dólares la hora para el LQA (testeo lingüístico) de juegos.

They offer 8 dollars an hour for LQA (linguistic testing).

*screams in LQA*
I just got one of the most poorly designed messages in a game ever.

Still surprising to me that there’s no conversation happening right now about additional libraries at minimum in the SLU/Belltown/LQA area.

The densest part of the city not in the walkshed of any library!

Massive thanks to @fromthevoid.net for the opportunity! French translation by @mittovac.bsky.social and editing/LQA by yours truly.

Turns out I translated this huge RPG called Demonschool into LATAM Spanish??? And I'm looking for more work???

Poured tons of love into translating Demonschool and I would love to do the same for your game!

Nioh 3, developed by Koei Tecmo and localized in 11 languages, does NOT feature any #TranslatorsInTheCredits. A few members of Localization staff are included in the LQA credits, but none of the actual translators are credited. Source: GamersPrey

SE's LQA—which occurs in tandem with standard QA—obviously includes the basic, standard technical checks, but their QA testers are also incredibly well-versed in each game's glossary and style guides, both company-wide and franchise-specific. They have keen eyes that catch even the most minor stuff.

LQA (Localization Quality Assurance)
LQA is responsible for fine-tuning how the target language looks in a game. Their main jobs are to catch any stray grammatical errors that slipped through, and to identify and correct line overruns and other text display issues.
January 21, 2025 at 3:50 AM
Put simply, SE's LQA testers take a proactive role in the final stages of localization and ensure that our final edits are as spotless as possible. While the translators and editors SE hires are quite talented, QA always deserves credit for making sure our vision is, in fact, implemented correctly.

Oh hey look, I just got credited on my first LQA exclusive project!

It's then up to us to decide whether to accept the proposed fix, submit a different revision, or reject it and explain why. (IIRC, Japanese-speaking LQA testers will also flag potential translation errors, although these tickets tend to be quite rare since SE will double-check our work in advance.)
