Imagine being the first prehuman lungfish born with the no gills mutation and all the other lungfishes roast you for being a landcel that can't breathe underwater until some other lungfish likes your funky vibes and decides to bust all over your eggs

系統解析の結果は、本種がこの時期の肺魚としては派生的な位置にいることを示していると。

Redescription of <fi>Sorbitorhynchus deleaskitus</fi> (Sarcopterygii, Dipnoi) from the Lower Devonian of China
Lungfishes first appeared in the Early Devonian and subsequently underwent a rapid radiation. They have persisted to the present day as iconic ‘living fossils’. Among Devonian lungfishes, the ‘chirod...

OK, so I discovered Gooloogongia, have worked on Kenichthys and Ichthyostega, and have studied the Tiktaalik material first-hand. My take:

All of these are members of the tetrapod stem group - the part of the tree that extends from our last common ancestor with lungfishes (which are our

But aren't dipnoans/lungfishes (or Dipnoi) sarcopteygiians (= "lobe-finned" fishes), & coelacanths also sarcoptyergiians? I appreciate any clarifications and/or corrections, as I try to keep up with the latest cladistic classifications.

You do have some ancestors that were lobe-finned fishes and they would appear very similar to modern day lungfishes. Whether or not that makes you a “lungfish” is up to you imo so slay
