Boycott Luxottica

What else would you expect from Luxottica?

“Luxottica collects the insurance premium. The retail margin. And the manufacturing profit. Three separate revenue streams from the same transaction.”

I also hate that basically everything except Maui Jim and a few others are owned by Luxottica
February 11, 2026 at 1:54 AM
Both brands are owned by Essilor-Luxottica these days, so it shouldn't be much of a surprise.

Luxottica owns it ALL. Any designer frames you have? Luxottica. Luxottica, Luxottica, Luxottica.
Ex optician here.

I have so many stories about people's first glasses changing their lives for the better. I'm boggled that anyone could believe otherwise.

Now the prices are another thing, we've somehow let a single company dominate the entire chain of Eyewear supply, and that's not helping.

Rayban and Oakley are just two of a huge list of brands owned by one massive competition-eating eyewear multinational called Luxottica. Your glasses were probably made by Luxottica. They own the frames, the lenses (Essilor) and the dispensing. They’re a notorious menace in eyewear.

Luxottica is a gang of scammers, too, y'all! Stop spending money in LUXURY GLASSES, they're JERKING YOU.
“‘I think Meta needed to partner with Luxottica because the Meta brand is not something that people want to put anywhere near their face,’ Spiegel said.”
'The Meta Brand Is Not Something People Want to Put Anywhere Near Their Face,' Says Snapchat CEO
Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel thinks that Meta is fumbling the bag on smart glasses.

personally i think luxottica—who owns ray-ban and oakley among many other sunglass companies—deserves a share of all this smoke for letting meta use their products as vehicles for their spyware
Oh, I'm afraid this problem goes beyond Eugene and Rusty

By Luxottica, specifically

They're only Pervert Glasses if they're from the Essilor-Luxottica region of Italy, otherwise they're just Sparkling Nonce Goggles.

Love that the label "pervert glasses" is routinenely attached to the name whenever anyone discussed the pervert glasses.
Too little, too late?

The wayfarer had been dead since the 80s until Luxottica revived them in the mid 2000s. Sales rose like 250%. Ray Ban was literally brought back to life by Luxottica (and Chloe Sevigny)

This will get interesting when people connect Ray-ban with the umbrella company Luxottica, which is one of the biggest maker of glasses in the world. Need new glasses from your local optometrist - no thanks if you support creepy surveillance brand 🙂‍↔️

The writers this season aren’t even trying anymore

Ray-ban was bought by Luxottica in 1999. It's been dead for decades.
July 4, 2025 at 7:12 PM
But yeah pretty much any luxury brand's sunglasses that are 'Made in Italy' are all made in the same Luxottica factory
July 18, 2026 at 9:08 AM
dad’s love to tell you that you’re getting ripped off paying for designer sunglasses because they’re all made by the same company, luxottica, anyway. ☝️unless you buy maui jims, which truly make their own. this is a favorite opinion of dads everywhere

God. I hate that hi index isn’t outright free for those who need it.

Also, fuck Luxottica
August 9, 2025 at 12:48 PM
Luxottica deserves that.

Not predatory at all:

🟣 “…when Oakley resisted Luxottica’s terms for distribution, Luxottica used its power by pulling Oakley products from Sunglass Hut, which Luxottica also owned. Oakley’s stock tanked, and eventually, Luxottica bought them out in 2007.”

Perché devono buttarmi giù per la gola l'ereditiero di Luxottica per forza?
January 29, 2026 at 7:47 PM
Once you learn a good number of designer glasses companies are all owned by Luxottica you start thinking about glasses differently.
July 28, 2025 at 1:30 PM
It seems like META really ruined the legacy of the Ray Ban brand with Luxottica. The glasses of the Beat poets, James Dean, Patti Smith, Madonna, etc., part of the legacy of American style and branding like the Coke bottle and Levi's, reduced to being "Pervert Glasses." Way to go there, tech.
