The water level was as low as I’ve ever seen.

Pretty purple loosestrife along the river yesterday.

A colorful plant, but also wildly aggressive. It chokes out native vegetation and reduces wildlife habitat. It’s illegal to buy, sell or even cultivate here. But because of its bright color, people resist its eradication.

Purple loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria, is a Class B Noxious Weed in Washington State. That means it is required for control in many places, but not everywhere! As the negative review says, it is particularly harmful in our wetland habitats!
