For @wired.com, I spoke with Macmillan and PRH staff about AI at the rest of the Big Five.

I also spoke with bestselling authors who've gone to "war" with publishers over AI use and are now demanding disclosures and threatening to leave their publishers altogether. www.wired.com/story/macmil...
Macmillan Staff Say the Publisher Threw a Party for a Workplace AI Assistant That Was Later Killed
Workers tell WIRED that NOA—or “No Ordinary Assistant”—was unhelpful. Bestselling authors also say AI is ruining their relationships with Big Five publishers.

I wonder if whoever checks PRH’s site stats and traffic ever goes “Who the hell is constantly accessing book pages for a week every month?” 🤣 See also: Macmillan and Simon & Schuster.

I realise now that hardly anyone knows who Harold Macmillan was. ("Was he in Casablanca?)

This classic (from a well regarded economist) is key, but its deep critiques have mostly been ignored by modelers: DeCanio, Stephen J. 2003. Economic Models of Climate Change: A Critique. Basingstoke, UK: Palgrave-Macmillan. [http://amzn.to/1wvkvDu]

Times are hard I know, but as someone who's family has a horrible history with the C word (and I myself am potentially at elevated risk of it thanks to genes)... I'd really be grateful if you could spare some loose change for Macmillan care and research.

Patrick Radden Keefe's simply amazing LONDON FALLING made the Baillie Gifford Prize shortlist. Pan Macmillan has an interview with him about how the book started: a stranger on a film set told him about a London teenager living a double life as an oligarch's son. #booksky

NEW: Macmillan staff tell @adamm0rgan.bsky.social the publisher threw a party for AI tool NOA ("No Ordinary Assistant"), complete with a light-up display and donuts spelling "NOA IS HERE." They say it was "terrible" and useless—NOA was killed about two years later: www.wired.com/story/macmil...
