“It would be much better and sustainable if these large, overabundant macropods were harvested for human consumption,” he said.

“Kangaroo meat is arguably the most organic, free-range, and ethically sourced meat available to Australians,” he added.
As deforestation and lost predators fuel a kangaroo population surge in Australia, a record cull is drawing scrutiny.

Scientists suggest alternative control methods, including reforesting habitats and reintroducing native predators like dingoes.

Cooper Williams reports for #Mongabay.

Thylacine skull anatomy is more convergent with smaller canids that rely on small prey. They don’t appear to have been as proficient at hunting large macropods and ratites as dingoes, which means this diet shift put them (and devils) under more pressure: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33882837/
Functional ecological convergence between the thylacine and small prey-focused canids - PubMed
Our study finds little support for a wolf/dog-like functional ecology in the thylacine, with it instead being most similar to mid-sized canids such as African jackals and South American 'foxes' that mainly take prey less than half their size. This work suggests that concepts of convergence should ex …

HDPE liners are known wildlife traps. Macropods swim rather well, and will generally find a simple, rough-cover exit ramp, if provided. The hind claws of big, desperate ones may put holes in the liner, so it pays to provide for their safety.

Kobolds rely on their tools to perform work, so they are limited by what they can carry. When marsupial-kobold hybrids started appearing from crossbreeding, their pouches help carry even more tools and materials between worksites. [8/10]
