#mainstream-adoption
Bluesky is a PBC (public benefit corporation) with the mission “to develop and drive large-scale adoption of technologies for open and decentralized public conversation.”

From the start, our goal has been to build a decentralized social network that is usable by the mainstream.
I see it as a real accomplishment that BSky and ATProto have managed to finally crack the code of making decentralized, open source based social media actually appealing and usable by the masses and mainstream. It's a HUGE step in the right direction and should be celebrated

Bitcoin got a bump from Trump but enthusiasts should note the paradox of going mainstream: For bitcoin to achieve mainstream adoption, it would need to embrace the very government regulations and oversight it was designed to avoid

Worth remembering that serial rapist, sex trafficker and Trump associate Andrew Tate is also a person used by the OpenClaw team as an example of mainstream adoption of their platform. bsky.app/profile/anil...
Lauren Southern's story of being raped by Andrew Tate is sad on so many levels.

"Implications of our study are, however, not only limited to academic debate but also challenge the widely held belief in today's political debate that the adoption of more authoritarian-nationalist and anti-immigration positions by mainstream parties would curb the success of the radical right."

What’s funny is that, by comparison, the great financial crisis was relatively well-covered in the media - at least online, though Internet adoption was much lower back then. Years of warnings about the housing market in mainstream media. The ai bubble is so weird! It’s an aberration!

its crazy that rust has reached mainstream adoption cuz i think this is the first time the industry has standardized on a tool that doesn't suck complete ass

adoption subplots in mainstream tv and movies are, as a rule, terrible. and extremely adopter/saviorist centered.

for a minute there a certain popular and universally positive view of "technology" really was a kind of secular religion that held the vestiges of an "American mainstream" together, but the titans on top sold off the goose that lays golden eggs and now they want to believe AI adoption is the problem

if anyone wants to usher in an era of western VN mainstream adoption, you'd probably make a couple billion dollars by calling them "Playable Novels" and pointing booktok at 'em
i reviewed lost records for rolling stone, a tender story with a punk heart about banding together against patriarchy and conservatism, and how both time and decisions made eventually catch up to everyone.

This article is a startlingly thorough presentation of the historical and political underpinnings and meanings of #adoption in the US. I have never seen an article in a mainstream magazine like it.

It’s something like a capsule statement of the small, but growing, adoption abolition movement.

Now that EVs have gone mainstream in several markets, we have a clearer idea of which policies deliver results — and which don't.

virtually *all* depictions of adoption in mainstream popular culture are given from the point of view of adopters, cater to adopters, flatter adopters, vindicate adopters. These depictions do not complement #adopteevoices, they erase them.
because #adoption follows me literally whenever I go, I was at a party yesterday and ended up talking about it with people I had just met (not entirely my fault!) and heard one of them say that some recent magazine pieces about adoption made them understand that no one ever listens to adoptees.

I completely agree with this because while I understand that brand account and ads are annoying, it’s a very good sign of growth for the platform

There’s a massive active user base now. I get more traction here than Twitter and Instagram. It’s a good thing to get mainstream adoption
We need to bully brands into posting here. That will make it easier for folks to transition. Its annoying not being able to comment on the new trailer for whatever here. Twitter does still feel like the place info hits first.

The mainstream adoption of 3d printing is mostly due to the expiration of certain patents and the hard work of enthusiasts and open source communities.

As always, the problem is capitalism
You know what emergent tech of the last decade actually works well, and was adopted by millions?

3D printing. It’s great! So many applications.

But also nobody is sneering at you for not having or utilizing 3D printing. Nobody is trying to sneak a 3D printer into your garage without your consent

it's stunning to see show of hands around AI adoption by devs/SREs/"devops people" at conferences, it's now up to 60%+ adoption. wild to see how quickly it's actually gone mainstream after a few years of being more hype than real value.

One of the things I've recently learned is that the difficulty of obtaining polyhedral dice in Japan stymied its mainstream adoption, further helping cement Sword World's dominance as it uses only D6.

In the United States, we will not likely see meaningful regulation that will stop LLM adoption, or even significantly slow it down. Mainstream users do not care if tech they use *literally enables genocide* so appeals to abstract ethical concerns are not often very effective in altering behavior.
