A photo of the front of a brown mantidfly resting on a white surface. The mantidfly's head and raptorial arms are in sharp focus. The head is triangular, and the hemispherical eyes are large and shine with a metallic bronze hue. The mantid-like raptorial arms are folded and held ready to strike. The tan legs and body are just out of the plane of focus.

This terrifying thing is on my front door. The internet says it's a mantidfly. Luckily it is very smol.
A slender, brown and tan mantidfly clings to the white metal frame of a glass door. The insect has distinctive raptorial front legs, a long neck-like thorax, and clear, net-veined wings folded flat along its back. Through the glass, a blurred background shows a concrete driveway, a dark rectangular mat, a circular wire object, and trees in the distance.

A photo of an orange, black, and yellow Mantidfly from the side, doing its best to look like a Paper Wasp. The mantifdly has a small triangular head with large eyes which are brown with a bit of orange. its antennae are orange, then brown, then yellow. Its mantid-like raptorial arms are helt close against its thorax and they are mostly an orangy brown with yellow along the edges. The slender legs are brown close to the body and yellow and orange further down. The brown wings are held over the abdomen which is brown, yellow, and orange.

A wasp mantidfly, orchid mantis, devil's flower mantis would be so cool! Devil's flower mantis comes in so many beautiful varieties.
Stick or leaf insects could also be interesting as anthros! :>

I just this week met this mantidfly on my friend’s new car. I loved how the picture captured two views at once.

A mimic! This brown wasp mantidfly is pretending to be a paper wasp. Very bold lil bug- trusting their disguise to keep me away. If you look close you can see their claws tucked up tight. 🌿

A photo of a brown orange and yellow mantid fly from the side. The mantidfly's wings are dark Brown, it's body is banded brown, orange, and yellow very much like a paper wasp which it mimics. Its head has large brownish bronze eyes and it has raptorial arms much like that of a praying mantis. A photo of the mantidfly's head and forebody from above the antennae are mostly straight and range from yellow at the tips to oraange, brown, then orange and then yellow at the head. The head is dominated mostly by the large eyes, the raptorial arms are held tightly against its body. A photo of the mantid fly from above, the wings clearly visible here are brown on the outer 2/3rds and cleanish yellow in the inner portion. Another photo of the mantid fly from the front showing its head and raptorial arms in detail. The rear body slightly beyond the area of focus.

I'm not the only one who loves ant mimic salticids 👀
That weird little thing hugging the back of the spider's head is a mantidfly baby - it will remain attached to this female Peckhamia until she lays her eggs, and then it'll borrow some eggs permanently. #PHORESY!

I'd say... yes white mat but maybe not so much? You could go with a thinner white space to compliment the white outline of the mantidfly if possible
