It's "Regression to the Mean". Not, "Reversion" to the mean, or "Return" to the mean. Regression. To the mean.

yeah, this is very clearly mean-reversion
Same graph, but with the time series expanded to three years.

Honestly, it's a minor miracle that a social media company not backed by oligarchs or the state, with no attempt at establishing a revenue stream, and with multiple established competitors, had so much growth in such short time

Yeah painful to say but in some sense Hegseth is reversion to mean.

Reversion to the VP mean
i have written this a few times now but the reason JD Vance spends all day posting is that they barely tolerate his presence in the white house and have locked him out of every decision of consequence. he is basically unemployed
Shouldn't you be doing government shit?

1/ SPX multi-decade trend channel offers three scenarios: 1) Imminent mean reversion; 2) Mean reversion following further overshoot, perhaps in the form of a classic Q4 rally; and 3) Durable new advance altering multi-decade behavior. 🧵

Jacob Frey reversion to the mean
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says 29 people were arrested in downtown last night during a noise demonstration at a hotel reportedly housing ICE agents: "For those that are taking the bait and causing property damage or otherwise, there are consequences. We're holding the line here all the way."

TUDOR JONES: “.. We're 252% of stock market cap-to-GDP. In 1929 we were 65%. In 1987 we got to ~85-90%. In 2000, 170%.

“.. Since 1970, we get a mean reversion about every 10 years. Let's say mean revert to the past 25 or 30-year PE. That would be a 30, 35% decline.”

This is one of the reasons it's frustrating to hear guys like Matt Yglesias talk about going back to Twitter like it's a reversion to some kind of mean, it is not that at all

It seems highly likely that without a charismatic figure to take it to the next level, that whatever happens in the next couple elections, a reversion to the mean - a mean which has now been warped by mainstreamed fascism - happens quick. But if we are narrowly talking about the midterms, it seems…
Democratic fortunes in November don't rely on the "enthusiasm" of its voter base. The Dem voter base is not enthusiastic. The Dem voter base is full of rage. They're looking for someone to match that rage, to channel it. But even if they don't get that, they'll crawl over glass to kick MAGA out.
Hope that Democrats aren't relying on the enthusiasm of their base to win in November www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Mean Reversion in Forex: Strategies for Currency Traders
Defining Mean Reversion in Currency Markets Mean reversion is a foundational concept in quantitative finance, rooted in the statistical tendency of asset prices to return to their long-term average or mean over time. In the context of foreign exchange (forex), mean reversion suggests that currency pairs, after deviating significantly from their historical equilibrium, will eventually gravitate back toward that average. This principle contrasts with trend-following strategies, which assume that price movements persist in a given direction.

Historically speaking, though, the *existence* of the left (and democratic politics generally) is a relatively recent phenomenon that comes out of modernity. Hierarchy, xenophobia, militarism, and tradition ruled the pre-modern world. It's quite possible this is simply a reversion to the mean.

If this ceasefire happens - and I hope it does - Western media will talk about 'peace'. This will be inaccurate. What they will mean is 'quiet', a reversion to the background level of violence that Palestinians have faced for decades. Peace can only come with the end of the occupation and apartheid.

The only thing I can think of is maybe a bump if SCOTUS kills the tariffs.

The irony is what they need is mean-reversion, which would require not doing a new dumb illegal thing every week.

But @jamellebouie.net said 'remotely plausible' and 'be normal for 12 months' is not remotely plausible.
a thing to ask yourself re: the GOP's electoral position is what could happen over the next year that could *improve* its position? and what could trump do, plausibly, that might *boost* his numbers with the public?
