Research reveals that a US smartphone OS developed by Apple includes a mechanism excluding over one hundred thousand words and phrases from predictive text and swipe typing suggestions. This restricted list covers specific drugs, sexual expressions, political conflicts, and social issues. Implemented as an OS database, it limits typing assistance for specific expressions. Text input technology has evolved from early word-matching systems to statistical prediction based on context, and recently to transformer-based systems similar to large language models. The development company designed the keyboard feature to avoid inappropriate or offensive prediction candidates, while users can still input any expression manually character by character.
