A huge loss. Roy Hodson was our first gender archaeologist in British Iron Age studies, using complex seriation at Hallstatt to determine that status (grave wealth) was not gendered. His work in 1964, on British insularity (against invasionist thinking) another classic. A great mind, methodologist.
Sad to hear of the passing of Roy Hodson, pioneering user of #statistical methods in #archaeology. Although we only met in passing quite some time ago, his work forms the foundations of much quantitative archaeology and an important part of the @uclarchaeology.bsky.social 's history. RIP.

I am very pro-weird art, but I'm not gonna lie it's kind of annoying that people who are putatively social scientists clearly want to do weird art and call it social science. like that lady who "publishes" papers with her cats and ghosts is supposedly a qualitative methodologist.

A Trial Statistician might be a Trial Methodologist, but these are not synonyms. I feel like I'm seeing confusion out there. It's important imo to not assume that a trial methodologist has expertise in designing trials or analyzing and interpreting the resulting data, unless of course they do.

And I’m not saying that as like some poli sci /econ/soc etc. methods chauvinist type, i’m not a methodologist or anything. But there’s just a lot of very bad shit out there, as in like basic research design errors type stuff.

After the GE2015 polling miss, the inquiry led by Bluesky's favourite survey methodologist @patricksturg.bsky.social, found f2f surveys conducted by @britishelectionstudy.com and British Social Attitudes had got a lot closer to the result than the polling industry. That was not the case in GE2024.

Excellent talk, extremely on point and generalises far beyond the causality context. “Translational methodologist” is a brilliant concept IMO and we need many more of them! (I’m biased though because this is probably what @lakens.bsky.social tried to train me to become)
