1) Transmission of the Quranic reading traditions, and especially the written transmission that underlies the transmission of the technical data.

e.g. seeds with soil microvariation. This view treats an individual in its microenvironmental as a trial of a chance setup, but leaves out too much about natural selection. Population-environment systems add what's missing. Distinguishing roles for fitness concepts helps in justifying the idea. 7/9

I would not claim this of the rest of linguist*ics* in general; nonhistorical work is still real as comes to language description / grammatography / lexicography, or e.g. microvariation, microtypology, any actually empirical sociolinguistics or theoretical–cognitive linguistics…

Pinterest was never a stronghold but the copyright on recipes is almost entirely the pictures. Everyone has a microvariation on chicken paprikash and if you run into a version that's tsp for tsp the same as yours it's only a real battle if they stole your photos and ~tips~.

I haven't seen the term yet, so no answer here. But I can imagine that it makes sense to map - for example - the extent and forms of syntactic microvariation, even without a historical explanation (this is, in fact, my current long-term project, but with some historical extras)
