Wish I'd taken the time to figure out @oskarstalberg.bsky.social's dual grid concept earlier. It simplifies everything so much while also enabling nicer tile shapes.
In short: instead of designing tiles, design the boundary slices between them.

Every parallelogram that you draw around an ellipse whose sides are tangent to the ellipse at their midpoints has the same area for a given ellipse: 4 a b, where a and b are the semi-axes of the ellipse.

Dug up my notes on the line clipping algorithm I wrote back in the day. I ended up doing a divide and conquer using line midpoints. Midpoints are easy; (x1+x2)/2 and (y1+y2)/2, and it suits 8 bits as it just uses addition and shift operations - no pesky multiply or divides required.

i like scenarios with… inevitability to them (e.g. getting fat in a setting where everyone is)
which is why i think i like TFs with tell-tale signs that you can't ignore yet can't stop. dripping syrup, turning blue, a nozzle, eyes or speech changing… there's something about those "uh-oh" midpoints
