#mitogenome
Genome Observatory now has a Genometrics section, where I've collated some stats about the 18k NCBI Chromosome-level genome records. Interestingly many genomes have no mitogenome, and most plant genomes have no plastid genome. Any and all suggestions for additions to Genometrics are welcomed!

This is not a land flatworm... it's a land nemertean!
In this new paper, we describe its complex mitogenome, report the presence of NUMTs, and even more! 🧪

...so here's a new one: Pycnogonum sp. (ventral view)...a new species from East #Antarctica collected on NBP23-03. My undergrad Mady Gott (headed to Nebraska for her PhD! YAY!) and I are working up the mitogenome, description, and 3D scan...hoping to finish this early summer! 🧪🌎🦑🇦🇶🐧🧬

In this 2024 paper, we sequenced the complete mitogenome of the invasive flatworm Arthurdendyus triangulatus and of 4 species of Caenoplana. We found that the mitogenomes of all Rhynchodeminae have unusual structural features, including a very long cox2 gene.
