somehow completely missed this getting released back in Jan, but this is how I'll be wasting idle time for the foreseeable future, akin to exploring Google Maps

Phylogeny Explorer - Birds of the World
The Phylogeny Explorer offers a captivating experience for exploring avian evolution, discovering closely related species, and grasping the timescales at which they evolved.

Phylogeny is all pretty timey-wimey stuff to be fair.

The phylogeny hasn't been updated. Maybe it'll happen if I ever get funding and an actual academic job to work on this!

Trick-or-Treat? A Halloween bucket full of fossils to place in that extant only phylogeny 🦕👻🎃

Has the tree been updated? Seems somewhat problematic when I look at the actual phylogeny of various fish groups.

there is a point where getting too into phylogeny feels like a disunification exercise, yeah

With this minimal polarity fragment in hand, we re-examined SOSEKI phylogeny to ask how this region evolved. This helped define SOSEKI orthology groups (9/14)

You know what this calls for?

A phylogeny of the transmission chain!!!

And if these processes are decentralized (which they largely are), it’s hard to say what is replicating, or even being transmitted, outside of a recurring developmental system. Phylogeny fades into a sequence of, and variation between, ontogenies, with no need for such metaphors.

So turns out that ontogeny does not in fact recapitulate phylogeny. Who knew man. Who knew.

Can hybridization explain the evolution of plumage patterns in black-and-white wagtails?
A reticulated phylogeny provides extra challenges to answer this question.
