@b monadic car is when you go through a drive-through instead of walking into the place

it's still you ordering food, you're just in a wrapper to fit the type of counter you're interacting with

Eight small changes, shorter APL.

At Dyalog '26, Adám Brudzewsky proposes monadic ≤ ≥ to sort, ∧ ∨ to promote/demote rank, ⊤ ⊥ for binary, ⊇ to pick the last, and dyadic ⍴ inferring an axis length.

A flat list of genetic findings tells you very little.

The same findings grouped by heart, metabolism, brain, and immune system start to look like a picture.

That is what the new Healthspan Report in Monadic DNA Explorer does, and it runs in your browser.

When you ask what your DNA says about your metabolism, there are at least ten separate questions hiding inside that one. Research mode in Monadic DNA Explorer pulls them apart, checks each one against your results, and puts the answer back together.

A raw DNA file has around half a million variants and maybe a few dozen of them are worth your attention.

Monadic DNA Explorer puts your strongest results at the top the moment you load the file, so the interesting part takes seconds instead of an afternoon.

so a common way of doing monadic type checkers is to just define everything in a direct monad style where the check and synth judgments correspond to functions check and synth with monadic types like you can see in the quoted code

so i said at the end of this thread that I also have a particularly nuanced way of doing monadic type checkers but that it was a topic for later

and now is later! so i'm going to discuss that
when we do type theory in standard inference rule notation like the left image, we often end up translating that into monadic typing systems like the image on the right

but there are a number of aspects of the monadic Haskell version that are not as straight forward as wed like

Most new languages include elements from existing ones. Bend borrows from several -- the surface syntax is a lot like Python's; monadic IO and restrictions on variable reuse are not. The upshot in any case is that you won't find a nontrivial, working bend program in preexisting training data.

i also like to be able to step through the proof process to see how things developed, and be able to present information about that to the user

and i find that the usual monadic presentation is.. insufficient, I guess?

and one approach I've taken is to use the Freer monad
October 2, 2026 at 10:06 PM
and thats all good and well. this is a very routine Freer monadic approach to things

what makes this approach interesting to me tho is that because the goals are concrete data, and the execution of the strategy is a choice you make separate from the goals, you can change execs

im curious what you think of the monadic-parser-inspired version further down :)
October 1, 2026 at 6:09 PM
I think it goes back to Indo-European cultures although some of it is deeply buried

We have the Vedic concept of Brahman/Paraatman, the Avestan Ahura Mazda and this

But the Celtic and Norse monadic figures are way more obscure to identify
