Where the *fuck* is Wesley

Honduras and Nicaragua also have a ton of Moravians—together they comprise more than half of all Moravians in Latin America. This is because the Moravians were very successful at converting the Miskito people; almost all Miskito are Moravians today

wouldn't want anyone to think she's one of those Moravians

One thing about consuming a lot of World War 1 media is that you realize how much artisanal racism and ethnic spite was a feature of the age, like Prussian prejudices against dull-witted Carinthians or sly Moravians

the moravians cannot be abided

I think the Moravians got something right here. You don’t need anything wild or crazy. You just need the Lamb who conquered and who we must follow. This rocks.

God bless the elderly Presbyterians (and Episcopalians, and Lutherans, and Methodists, and American Baptists, and Disciples, and Congregationalists, and Brethren, and Quakers, and Mennonites, and Moravians, and Unitarians, and ...)
I'm officially organizing people from church into an anti-ICE rapid response group. The elderly Presbyterians are PISSED.

It's why - despite everything else and all my disagreements - I have way more respect for Catholics and Eastern Chrstians and some others - Anglicans, Anabaptists, Moravians, the African American denominations, and, of course, the Quakers. There's something beautiful and human at work.

A rock retaining wall in Old Salem, the earliest settlement of Moravians in America. If you are in Winston-Salem, NC, give it a look! 👀

I am fairly certain I don't. I am moderately certain I have no ancestors whose arrival postdates the Revolution at all. They lived with Irishmen & Germans & Moravians, & it was hardly any issue.

Vance trying standup comedy:
"Y'all ever notice how Moravians walk like this, while Ruthenians walk like 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴??"

I wish there were more Moravians :(

treating a loose confederation of eight ethnostates only barely held together by the memory of suffering together under Franco as an ethnic monolith, but she will be godDAMNED if anybody confuses her for one of those filthy Moravians

In order that you are clear that Moravians are not your Bohemian beer-swilling oafs, they have named each of their newish Skoda regional trains after local grape varieties (Aurelius is a Czech Riesling/Neuburger cross. We just passed ‘Merlot’ and ‘Müller-Thurgau’ waiting in the Brno sidings.)

The Moravians also have great ecumenical relationships, it's very interesting.

The Moravians went hard with this one
“May the Lamb that was slain receive the reward of His suffering.”

Between the Moravians in Winston-Salem and the Waldensians in Valdese, North Carolina has some decent proto- and Early Protestant Church representation.
Ok but in the weird schismatic church North Carolina tie-ins Valdese, NC was founded by Italian Waldensian immigrants.

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if I had discovered the Moravians in college instead of the Episcopal Church. At the end of the day, I'm glad that we're in full communion! 🕯️
And one of my favorites—from the Moravians, whose founder (Zinzendorf) wrote this lovely verse in 1735:

"How blest are they who still abide
close sheltered in thy bleeding side,
who life and strength from thence derive,
and by thee move, and in thee live."

(English trans., J. Wesley, 1740.)
