Good Morning Neighbors,

Welcome back folks, instead of talking about wild plants we will be talking about lovely things in the trial gardens. #Petunia #MountainMint #Oregano #Marigold

Checking out the bustling pollinator business out back. Saw this huge dude in the mountainmint, blurry video still was enough to identify as a CLUBBED MYDAS FLY! Native to the region. It’s a mimic and really confused me at first lol

its still too hot to think but I did a yard circuit to stake floppers from last nights storm. noticed the narrow leaf mountainmint is BUSY! Finally has a lot of blooms, there’s a constant buzz of tiny little guys and bigger waspy guys just haloing the plant so I’m taking all the dopamine I can

A patch of wild bermagot & mountain mint in bloom along with golden rod yet to bloom. A fun native plant trifecta that keeps themselves upright with no flopping over. A few bumblebees enjoy dinner as the sun sets #Monardafistulosa

We got out early yesterday, trying to beat the worst of the heat. Cane Creek Mountains are in the extreme drought zone & it was apparent in the dearth of blooms. We did see these two: Sericocarpus linifolius (Narrowleaf Whitetop Aster) & Pycnanthemum tenuifolium (Narrowleaf Mountainmint) 1/2

I took off work yesterday and spent the afternoon pulling weeds, transplanting these swamp milkweeds & a clustered mountain mint. I quickly rigged up the rabbit-proof fence even tho I don’t have the right fence posts yet. catbirds kept me company THE WHOLE TIME.

This sumac cellophane-cuckoo bee was having a hard time getting the pollen off its tongue today. Maybe the bee equivalent of having food stuck in your teeth? #bees #BugSky

Milkweeds germinating!

https://www.allforgardening.com/1621249/milkweeds-germinating/

It’s getting down to 22 degrees in the next few days. Should I bring my milkweed, mountainmint, and coreopsis seeds that have germinated inside? Also any tips on what to do next once it’s time for planting? …

Two favorites of the season for me are Ageratina aromatica
(Smaller White Snakeroot) and Conoclinium coelestinum (Blue Mistflower). Pycnanthemum pycnanthemoides (Southern Mountainmint) was past its prime but smelled lovely 5/n

What's in the little box?
It's another wave of lavender and chives.
I have one little cluster of lavender that made it. I'll just keep putting more of it out there as the heat fades the seedling survival rate should go up.
The mountainmint is establishing out there well.

Went for a short walk in the Alston Quarter behind our house. One of the roads for the hunt club is coming back as a Piedmont prairie. This Pycnanthemum (probably pycnanthemoides but could be incanum) was a microhabitat for many arthropods 1/n

The native pollinator garden is in full swing! 🌻 We're seeing everything from 🐝 bees to butterflies on our latest blooms, including New England aster and Common boneset. There's still time to catch the Cardinal flower, Great blue lobelia, and more! #BlackRockForest #PollinatorGarden #NativeFlowers
