Tomorrow marks 59 years since the Smithsonian opened the Anacostia Neighborhood Museum in a converted D.C. theater. Built with deep community involvement, it helped redefine what a museum could be. #museum #history #smithsonian #museumhistory #ushistory

Dear #museumhistory #envhist #histsci people, I am looking for good readings to give my students about museums and/or collections ecosystems, environments - any area or time period. Anything you would recommend?
Also, do you have anything good about ecomuseums?
Many thanks!

By tracing how ideas of rarity developed, the talk highlights a broader problem: rare species don’t easily fit into the systems scientists use to count and manage biodiversity, making conservation more uncertain and complex. All welcome! #histsci #skystorians #HPS #museumhistory Please circulate

I know Du Maurier's book and stage adaptations gave us the Trilby Hat, but Trilby Feet? A wonderful example of a museum trying to stay relevant to pop culture of the 19th Cent.
