I do worry about seemingly every provincial conservative party being taken over by the far right. Because eventually a moderate party will fail and they will take the reins. BC is a possibility in the very near future.

To this I'd add Benkler too narrowly defines "coercion" as premodern/violent/force v. modern/abstract domination ("veil of free exchange"; Benkler p. 5). Perhaps consequently big disconnect between private "power-seeking" and state authority (and potential for control by market actors).

Should say - the GTA games narrowly missed out (either 1 or 3 - the ability to be an absolute arsehole was lovely and the move from top down to 3d blew my mind)

He was narrowly missed by a driver in a minivan who absolutely did not give one single shit about what was happening and didn't even tap the brake.
Luckily it's a fairly quiet residential neighborhood, so that was the only car, and we wrangled him in the fenced backyard by promising cheese!

Narrowly focusing on the attention getters in the bottom curve is leaving a lot on the table
There are three million American households with net worth above $5 million derived primarily from ownership of privately held companies, and they collectively account for much more wealth than the Forbes 400.

How Senate Democrats can stop Trump from stealing the midterms | David Walbert
Republicans could lean on congressional procedure to defy the will of voters. But if they try that, the Senate has a clear way to fight back Having lost his mail-in ballot case, Donald Trump will likely resort to ever more extreme ways to try to hold a Republican Congress in November’s elections. His last-ditch effort to count Joe Biden out in 2020 was for Republicans to “investigate” states Biden narrowly won; proclaim fabricated allegations of “stolen elections” to be true; and then reassign those states’ electoral votes to Trump. I have previously described how that same playbook could be used to try to steal the midterms if a Democratic margin of victory in the House is relatively narrow. Continue reading...

Better to give money to rich people (and have to find a way to claw it back) than to take it away from poor people. Means testing of benefits *always* hurts those who narrowly miss *and* ends up costing more in admin than just paying the same amount to everyone in the first place.

GOP doubts about Georgia and North Carolina have Republicans shifting focus in battle for Senate
ATLANTA -- Republicans once saw Georgia and North Carolina as promising pieces of their strategy to keep control of the Senate. But hopes of winning the two states have been fading, and the GOP is increasingly focused on playing defense elsewhere with five weeks until the midterm elections. Republicans haven't abandoned the Southern battlegrounds, which President Donald Trump carried narrowly in 2024, though they are shifting greater resources to states they see as more competitive.
