For #FindsFriday the Hiddensee hoard, found in the 1870s in Neuendorf, Lkr. Vorpommern-Rügen. Scandinavian style and Christian crosses suggest a late 10th C date. The neckring is 13.5 cm, the brooch 8 cm, the cross pendants 5.1–6.9 cm. Total weight: 595.5 g pure gold. Now in Stralsund Museum.

A big vintage 1970s handmade sterling silver and rose quartz abstract modernist pendant on neckring necklace from Kaunis Koru of Helsinki Finland. A lovely and very wearable design likely by Mirjam Salminen who was one of the principal designers at Kaunis Koru at the time! The pendant measures 2" by 2" and hangs on a 17" wearable neckring. Total weight for the necklace is 25.5 grams. The pendant is marked with the Kaunis Koru maker mark, the benchmark "AP" for Kari Aarre Apell, the date letter V7 for 1974, the Finnish national silver mark, and "925" for sterling silver. The accompanying neckring is unmarked, but has been tested and is guaranteed to be sterling silver. Kaunis Koru was a design studio, so they never made the items themselves, they contracted with local silversmiths. Over the years, most of the greats of Finnish Silver design worked at Kaunis Koru including Pekka Piekainen, Bjorn Weckstrom, Mirjam Salminen, and many others. Excellent vintage condition.

A unique and no doubt one of a kind vintage 1980s signed handmade sterling silver and rhodochrosite abstract modernist pendant from Poland. Circular form with raised polished rim that contrasts nicely against the oxidized black ground and seven bezel-set rhodochrosite stones. Five of the stones are laid flat while two are on their edges and rise above the ground. A large tube bail at top for hanging on a chain or cord, or on a neckring as shown in my last two photos. The neckring shown is not included, but can be purchased separately. (Email me for sizes available and prices.) Marked at back on the bail as shown with the Polish sterling silver mark post 1986, and with the mark for Warsaw. Also has a maker mark that I haven't been able to identify, and could be either "WO" or "OM". Third mark is an additional Polish silver mark for sterling silver. A striking piece of signed vintage modernist wearable art from Poland! From the estate of a very successful business woman in the publishing industry from NYC who traveled extensively and had exquisite taste! Excellent vintage condition.

A sleek vintage 1960s handmade sterling silver and vivid orange enamel modernist Thor's Hammer pendant on neckring necklace designed by Bjorn Sigurd Ostern for the firm of David Andersen in Norway. One of my favorite designs by this company! Sculptural and entirely handmade by skilled artisans at the the David Andersen workshop founded in 1876 in the city now called Oslo. The pendant measures 2-3/8" tall by just over 1.5" wide, and hangs on the original hammered sterling silver neckring also by David Andersen that presently will fit up to a 17" neck (snugly), and is easily adjustable a bit to go up or down a couple sizes as needed. The two items together weigh 23.6 grams total. Marked on both items, "D-A" or "David-Andersen" along with "Norway Sterling 925S", and also marked on the pendant, "INV B.S.O." for designer Bjorn Sigurd Ostern. Excellent vintage condition.

charlie now has goat horns, fluffier sleeves on the uniform, a fluffy dress on the bottom and a tail. vaggie has more moth features like bug eyes, antennas and a fluffy neckring alongside a gray dress. the x on the eye is now a broken halo. niffty....just went back to the OG design, i liked that more. alastor is now more small, with a pointy nose and small moustache, his hair is dark red, has green glasses and antlers. his clothes are the same as before but gray instead of red. his new wendigo form is behind him as a shadow.

A striking vintage 1960s 70s one of a kind handmade sterling silver and jasper modernist Sun or Star design pendant from Ireland. An entirely handmade no doubt unique piece of modern art to wear! At center is a large bezel-set jasper cabochon surrounded by a ring of arcing square sterling wires that overall resembles a star or the Sun. Such an unusual piece! Would look great on a chain, a black cord, or hanging from a neckring! I can provide a cord at no additional charge if desired, just let me know when making the purchase. Measures 1.75" diameter, and weighs just under 10 grams total. The marks at back are very very small and worn, so hard to make out, but I can make out the Lyre national mark for Ireland, and the maker mark "HG" probably from Dublin, but I can't make out the other marks. No doubt from the 1960s/70s era. Tested and guaranteed to be as described. From the estate of a NYC collector who traveled the world for her career in publishing, and collected unusual and interesting pieces of wearable art along the way. Excellent vintage condition.

A huge vintage 1940s handmade sterling silver Fan Bows Heart Flower design pendant by Chato Castillo of the famous Los Castillo family, and from very early in his career in Taxco. A very large piece cut from silver sheet and formed into a fan shape with applied balls, bows, a heart, and perhaps a a stylized floral design, or a mask ,above the heart. This pendant has great presence, and would look amazing on a chain, a black cord, or even on a neckring! A very rare design that I have only seen once before, and that one was different in the applied decoration on the fan shape, making them each one of a kind. According to the classic, "Mexican Jewelry" (1963) by Mary Davis and Greta Pack, "...In the few jewelry pieces that he makes...his pieces are all one of a kind..." (p.195). Measures 4.75" wide by 3.5" tall at front, and weighs 39 grams or about 1-1/3 ounce total. Marked at back as shown, "Sterling Chato Mexico". Tested and guaranteed to be as described. Excellent vintage condition.

A rare and exceptional vintage 1950s handmade two-tone white and yellow 14k gold and lavender jade cross pendant on a 14k gold neckring necklace. Incredibly rare and no doubt unique, entirely handmade, and an outstanding example of the exceptional design work and craftsmanship of Enrique Ledesma! The lavender jade is natural untreated jadeite jade of the highest quality and color! Really a beautiful stone! The pendant measures 2-3/4" long by 1-3/8" wide, and it weighs 8.8 grams total. The lavender jade stone at center measures 1-1/2" long by 1/2" wide, and is of exceptional quality and very unusual shape and size! The pendant is marked "Ledesma 14K" on the bail as shown in my photos. I've matched the pendant by Ledesma with a 14k gold neckring of American origin which is sold separately. (The neckring measures 4" by 4-1/4" inner diameters when closed, but can be worn open when it will fit up to a 17" neck. The 14K yellow gold neckring weighs 9.6 grams total, and is marked "14K" with maker mark SS. Please inquire if you wish to purchase the neckring with the pendant.) Excellent vintage condition.

A dramatic vintage 1960s 70s handmade sterling silver and opal abstract modernist pendant. Built on two levels of sterling silver sheet with the upper polished bright, and the lower oxidized black for contrast, and at center bottom is a large bezel-set white opal cabochon that really POPS against the oxidized black surround. Measures 2.5" tall by 1.5" wide, and weighs just under 26 grams total. The stone measures 25mm by 18mm, and I'm guesstimating the weight to be about 7-8 carats. This high quality white opal has intense flashes of red green blue orange and gold in the white ground that become apparent when you move the stone relative to a bright light source. (Comparable unset stones online are selling in the $300-$400 range.) Marked, "Sterling" at back as shown, and no doubt a one of a kind piece of wearable art. Reminds me of pieces I've seen by Paul Miller of NYC, and others. Most likely originally sold in an art gallery or fair with accompanying paperwork or labeling that has been lost over the years. In any case, a striking and quite beautiful piece! In my last four photos, I show the pendant on a neckring that is not included, but can be purchased separately. Was great this year to visit the small museum in Athens where all these creations dwell. Especially geeking over the Mycenaean neckring plate that featured in Jennell Jaquays' Caverns of Thracia art.
