As I said, it's going to be interesting to see what happens when they get a desync or netsplit going. Or, for that matter, how they now very urgently are going to deal with people like Link being banned from one place but not another. My guess is that 'walls' will start turning up rapidly.

On IRC, the server you're on doesn't matter so long as it's in the same network (except during a netsplit), and you only make one account per network, if that. IRC also doesn't have history, so accounts aren't commitments.
Ironically, IRC works much more like Bluesky than Mastodon internally.

i think the biggest issue was that it was ALL peer to peer, and could easily suffer from netsplit lobbies (including your squad garage), or the host disconnecting to "cancel" a loss.
hell, one time i lost to a literal invisible robot who my friends could all still see in spectator mode
