Thanks Maureen. It’s sad that New55 didn’t continue but I’m happy I got the chance to use it.

If I shoot a frame of hoarded New 55 4x5 (recreated Polaroid type 55), that’s a super dead format. 😅😅

New55 instant film !!!
I was lucky to be able to get my hands on this, hope the film hasn't dried out.
Was thinking of shooting some old growth trees with it.

Thanks. I miss it, too. I had such hope for the NEW55 film project ... sigh.

Image was made on New55 positive/negative film, which was a reboot of Polaroid Type 55 film. With it you get a regular positive print but also a usable negative with which you could make prints with an enlarger.

Those look great! I also miss it for my 4x5 and RB67. Years ago I asked the new Polaroid folks if they plan to make it and they said it was unlikely. Bummer. And too bad New55 was a flop.

I still remember New55 🥲

One of my favorites of yours. One of the best uses of New55 I’ve seen.

Atomic X was the underlying film for New55 instant film. For a few years, New55 also sold it in this form without the sleeves and pods that made it an instant film.

Rodinal always works for me. Except with Bergger film, but whatever. I tried the monobath that New55 put out, but it didn’t do anything for me. Only reason I was reading about them was that Grant Haist had a chapter in his magnum opus about them and he also wrote a whole book about them.

Alkaline. I’ve stopped using acid fix for almost everything (only exception is New55, and since that’s dead at this point, it’s kind of irrelevant).

Agreed. I thought that pack film was a stretch, although not impossible, as New55 and SuperSense have shown. Any claims that they’re looking into recreating Kodachrome has me thinking that they’re pulling our legs.

Nobody wants pull-apart film more than me (I have spent more money with Supersense and New55 than I want to admit), but there’s a reason nobody is doing it at scale today. It’s fucking hard.

If I ever win the lottery, I’m specifically bringing back New55….

Petapixel has an article by Cheng Qwee Lee on how to make your own instant film

petapixel.com/2023/10/01/h...

Laurent Ete on Flickr was doing this a few years ago. I bought a bunch of the stuff I need to do this, but haven't found the time to actually do it.

Ahhh.
I still shoot a konika instant press. I bought 30 packs of film in about 2014, and shoot sentimental stuff with it. (Shot a portrait of Cory Doctorow @ the HOPE conference, shot a friend at her citizenship ceremony, etc.)
There was brief hope with with the new55 project, but alas.

Same.

Am trying hard not to be too optimistic about Light Lens Lab.

I can’t bring myself to buy the diy kit from supersense.

I still have a partial box of new55 in my fridge and an unopened box of fp-3000b. 🥶

Yeah, The Rube Goldberg machine that New55 built to be able to assemble their product was really incredible. Such an amazing outcome when compared with the industrial behemoth they were quixotically attempting to emulate on a shoestring.

Ive got 4 shots of New55 left in my fridge...

And also never got the last thing I ordered from them (as did several others I know are on here too).

Really wish they had survived, seemed like the market only grew afterwards.

A1 - one film that I did get to shoot:

Polaroid type 55 p/n (or a return to production for new55)

And one film that I never got to shoot:

Kodak Aerochrome
