this is just a thing that’s going to happen now. future hyperarcheologists will read the bytes off a discarded internet-connected laser printer’s nvram and find “KIMI K4 WUZ HERE”
probably a skin crawling sensation to be the engineer who discovered this first

My new (to me) Sony monitor turned up. This one is a 1280x1024 display so hopefully I won’t need my VGA scaler to get it to accept the Blade’s signal. But I now have to wait for a new NVRAM battery from China…

I am slowly making progress with the Sun Blade 100. I’ve got a working NVRAM/IDPROM battery now with valid contents and I’ve rebuilt the Ethernet ID. Next step is to see if it will see the 32GB SATA SSD via an IDE 2 SATA adapter.

So, turns out you can't just, create UEFI NVRAM variables from the UEFI shell, because, why would you want to do that???

Turned out they were in RTC NVRAM and the NVRAM was just about holding onto settings with the voltage provided. Though it did corrupt them for the first time as I rebooted it today. So right on the edge.

With OSX 15.3 you can finally disable powering up automatically on lifting the laptop lid or plugging it in:
sudo nvram BootPreference=%00

If you *didn’t* otherwise have a dedicated chip, the request took a (longer) fTPM path.
Normally, the TPM needs a place to store secrets/keys/etc. fTPM is really just…software.
AMD had to awkwardly piggyback off of the motherboard’s slow BIOS chip to store that data (instead of NVRAM).

If the PEB (MCU, DC-DC, OBC) on my Kangoo goes boom for some reason, I have to hope it doesn't take a specific NVRAM chip with it, because you have to swap that to a spare PEB or it'll immobilize the car.
and if I have to go to a dealer, it's cheaper to gut the car and rebuild the whole drivetrain
