On the Shropshire side of Offa's Dyke, it was said that the landmark was a furrow, cut through the landscape on a single night by The Devil. To do this, Owd Scratch used a plough, pulled by a gander and a turkey!

A section of Offa’s Dyke near Churchtown in Shropshire. The linear earthwork roughly follows the English/Welsh boundary, and was constructed on the orders of King Offa of Mercia in the 780s. 📸 My own. #SaxonSunday #OffasDyke #Mercia #Shropshire

#247 Offa's Dyke, Llangollen, 26/08/2025

I like planning walks that work these fabulous limestone "pillows" into them, they are dramatic whatever the weather but truly sing in the sunshine.

The halfway point on Offa's Dyke Path #NationalTrail, near Newcastle on Clun, #Shropshire. The world feels a long way away, there.

This is the Trothy Valley in #Monmouthshire (where we walked today). #OffasDyke passes through it, and the River Trothy ‘joins the confluence of the #RiverWye and the River Monnow just South of #Monmouth.’

The Trothy Valley in #Monmouthshire: the peak on the right is Graig Syfyrddin - the summit of which is called Edmund’s Tump - and on the left are the #Sugarloaf and #Skirrid (Ysgyryd Fawr). #OffasDyke passes through the bottom of the valley.
