Edmonia Lewis (U.S., 1844-1907) was the first BIPOC sculptor in the US, the first to be internationally recognized.

Her father was African American and her mother was Indigenous (Chippewa, Ojibwa). Both died when she was little.

I came across this headline in the Porcupine Advance 1936. An Indigenous woman who was called to testify spoke Ojibwa but did not understand the court instructions in English or French. It turned out that the other language she spoke was Finnish.
It's a Northern Ontario thing.

Native Encampment
In the mid-1600's the Ojibwa east of Lake Superior began to move westward, and by the late 1770's, Ojibwa settlements circled Lake Superior.

Not so fast, Governor. Lake Michigan was named after the Ojibwa word mishigami, which means "great water" or "large lake." Native peoples get deference.
