Pima cotton is Pima (Akimel Oʼodham) Native cotton. They grew cotton on the Gila and Salt Rivers, long before colonization. (O’odham means “river people”)
(The current cultivar is modern)
Cotton can tolerate salt that food crops can’t, and the Salt, the Gila, and the Colorado are salty rivers.
