Keen to notch up a Perfect 10 (Beautiful South earworm 😅) I walked a nearby verge, wedged between road and reedbed.

I hoped to get #thewinter10 but delighted to find 21 species in flower in just 250m.

Particularly pleased to see Water Chickweed, Fleabane and lots of Self-heal. 🌸

Still pretty hot and dry here, so it was a novelty to get caught in a shower of rain. ☔
The way the water beaded on the Oxeye Daisies caught my eye.
There were lots flowering on this patch of grassland, but they were all much shorter than the ones I tend to see along the verges.

Small Scabious.
Viper's Bugloss.
A nice Oxeye Daisy.
Small Scabious A mauve flower about 40mm in diameter with two concentric rings of petals. It is lit from behind by low strong sunshine, and the background is rough grass. Viper's Bugloss Two flowers on the same plant, one facing us, the other "in profile". The inflorescence is a funnel shape, and is a fantastic ultramarine blue. Protruding from them are purple stamens with white tips. The leaves and stems are extremely bristly and hairy. The whole is strongly lit froom above left by sunlight. A nice Oxeye Daisy. A large (50-60mm) daisy-like flower with 13 brilliant white petals surrounding an egg-yolk yellow centre, against a background of rough grass. Lit very brightly from above by sunlight.
