#pasteurisation
RFK Jr MAGA is about to rediscover pasteurisation 🫠
Saw a TikTok wellness influencer suggest boiling your raw milk last night and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since

We... we have pasteurisation. We INVENTED pasteurisation for the EXPRESS purpose of deactivating viruses and bacteria found in milk
(pasteurisation literally just consists of heating the milk. That's it)
.@capublichealth.bsky.social reports finding #H5N1 #birdflu virus in raw milk. The producer, Raw Farm LLC of Fresno County, has agreed to recall a batch of a whole milk product called "cream top."
Milk from infected cows contains staggering levels of virus. www.statnews.com/2024/04/29/b...

watching videos about pasteurisation while my girlfriend gets the pumps ready

I have been involved in hosing out a dairy after milking time. You definitely want pasteurisation.

If you ever made a recipe that instructed you to scald the milk first — and if you’re not baking or making a custard — it probably predates pasteurisation!
When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine,"

That's... usually not the case!

In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using.

We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that?

Pasteurisation … 1860’s … 🤦‍♂️

Very few people have died from milk-borne diseases for a hundred years, why do we even need pasteurisation

Earlier today I read a minute from a meeting in 1922 where Bath Trades Council demanded pasteurisation to combat the menace of "dirty milk".

In response to the emergence of H5N1 influenza A viruses as a novel pathogen of cattle, a study in Nature Communications shows that pasteurisation of cows’ milk should effectively inactivate the virus, but that it remains infectious in unpasteurised milk. https://go.nature.com/3WRQ8fb 🧪

As does Pasteurisation.

The 1924 Dairy Produce Act mandates Pasteurisation!

Pasteurization temperatures inactivate #H5N1 effectively. We know that raw milk contains replicating virus and can a source of infection for this virus.
#RFKJr is a raw milk enthusiast who should not lead HHS esp NOT in the middle of an uncontrolled #H5N1 outbreak.

Absolutely A+ thread - lemons, mafia, pasteurisation, guinea pigs, and more.
Alongside "who built Hadrian's wall?", another great example of knowledge falling foul of 'common understanding' is scurvy.

The Royal Navy discovered the cure for scurvy, won the Napoleonic War, humanity then lost that knowledge without realising, then got saved by two Norwegian guinea pigs 🧵 /1

Louis Pasteur, 1865 - invention of 'pasteurisation' process to prevent spoilage of wine, milk. 'Raw milk' is unpasteurised and will decay swiftly.

Surely, if you're alright, that means pasteurisation is useless

It’s like pasteurisation never existed to him ….
December 16, 2024 at 4:26 PM
in the 'first they came for' game I did not have 'then they came for pasteurisation' down as an option.
do not drink raw milk. do not listen to influencers or surgeon generals who tell you to drink raw milk, because raw cow milk comes with raw cow poo.

People say “well what did people do before vaccines/antibiotics/pasteurisation?” as if that’s an argument for going natural.

They died, Carol. A lot of people died.

Or just pasteurised milk (studies show pasteurisation kills bird flu in cow's milk).

Learned today that
Some people think pasteurisation involves adding things to milk rather than heating it.

Schwurbelhausen will ganz dringend zurück in die Steinzeit. Nach dem Boykott von Impfungen, geht’s munter weiter mit Sonnencreme, Leitungswasser und Zahnpasta. Welche Errungenschaften werden als nächstes abgelehnt? Wasserklosett? LED? Kühlschrank? Pasteurisation? Seife?

That's what's so frustrating. These people aren't going back to their roots or whatever, they're as ignorant of the "basic common sense" precautions that people took as they are of modern pasteurisation processes.
