It has been such a busy week! Two training sessions at Wisley and a Volunteer’s Thank You tea party, three trips to London and a visit to very special friends with lunch on their roof garden. Not much time to garden but the flowers keep coming.

The bottom pictures are a red Penstemon and white Alyssum which suffered in the heat and drought but is flowering now.

My coolest recent example is my Rocky Mountain penstemon crossing with a hybrid I bought- Pike’s Peak penstemon. The resulting plants bloom in between the two, have warmer blue flowers, and brighter green leaves!

Finally, I skulked my way to the one place I had always called home. There, standing in all its radiant majesty, was the Penstemon Heights Public Library. Being one of the only places in Tierra Fertil that was partially built into the ground, it was a very unassuming place. It was a cozy sized sanctuary, and – with my completely ignorant estimate – could have probably fit about fifty or more people comfortably. It would have entertainment, books I could skim for survival and DIY tips, and I knew it had access to water. In other words, it was perfect. Creeping down the steps, I struggled not to get nostalgic. Of all the libraries in the city, this was young Duggy’s neighborhood bookshelf. It was the nicest part of an otherwise unremarkable area to me, and all it took was one bike ride to find my way into the cool embrace of a book. Of course there were computers as well. Renting one with a library card gave me a few hours of internet access that I didn’t have to share. Time I spent watching fan animated music videos, playing around with social media websites, and finding ways to sneak past content filters the systems had been programmed with to keep browsing PG-13. Standing in front of the doors now... I wasn’t sure how to feel. I mean, yeah, there was excitement and the aforementioned nostalgia... but then there was a subtle anxiety too. A brotha couldn’t help but worry; what if my perfect little shelter wasn’t so welcoming? It wasn’t my personal library, so it wasn’t as if I would be the only one that knew it existed. Other asylum seekers could have claimed the place – and if not them. some of the mindless might have been inside. Did I want to see the place defiled? Fuck... Beating back the uncertainty, I stepped into the entrance. The place was dark – or rather, the only light filling the room was from the ribbons of the sun pouring in through the small windows from the outside.

They are both beautiful. Penstemon are becoming some of my go-to plants along with hardy geraniums. I've never thought of growing them from seed.

I have a Penstemon plant that I think is penstemon digitalis- at least thats what the plant app says. I missed it flowering - but I have lots of seeds.

Is it worth harvesting seeds for the seed library since I am unable to specifically identify what it is?

White-eared Hummingbird (Basilinna leucotis) with likely “ino” type chromatic alteration, observed in a patch of beardtongue (Penstemon roseus) in the Nevado de Colima Volcano National Park. It had a pink bill and legs, regular eye color, and almost white feathers with brown-cream hues on the head, back, wings, and tail.

It's that wonderful time of year when many plants particularly easily propagatable perrenials go on offer at steep discounts. Spent £30, came away w 2 large scabiosa, large penstemon, 8x small salvias, 3 alpines, and an agastache. Already made 8 cuttings of the penstemon and cut the scabiosas in 2.
