#phonological
This may support the idea of focusing more on sound discrimination, even before choral repetition. How often is choral repetition inaccurate, thus leading to inaccurate phonological memory and longer-term inability to understand messages as a result?

Both my favorite accents (Cajun English and Welsh) both have rhythm and stress and intonational contours that I find very nearly hypnotic. They’re obviously nothing alike, but both have been shaped by sustained contact between English and another language with its own phonological system.

May be dementia patients respond to the letter K better than all other letters, the observation that they might respond strongly to it aligns with how phonological memory, speech mechanics, and cognitive processing operate during the progression of dementia.

interviewer: can you explain this gap in your CV?

linguist: oh, that’s a null phonetic/phonological manifestation of an underlying morphosyntactic realization of complex employer-employee semantics.
interviewer: can you explain this gap in your CV?

pollster: oh, that's fine, it's ignorable nonresponse
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your CV?

Graphic Designer: One of the flaws of convert pdfs to text is it removes kerning and the space between o and w is often tricky

This: www.jeffreyheinz.net/classes/21S/... or this: www.degruyterbrill.com/document/doi... are the best general overviews.

TLDR; it’s a measure of computational complexity that has been useful for understanding why we see certain broad types of phonological patterns and not others

Subregularity has always been about identifying *necessary* not *sufficient* properties. This means that if we find a new *phonological* pattern then it should be subregular. This does NOT mean that if we choose any *subregular* pattern that it should be a possible phonological pattern.

Also, actually🤓☝️, Korean letters do *not* sound the same regardless of placement in a word..! Korean is actually chock-ful of phonological sound changes, based on tempo and placement in a word/phrase..!! I cover some in my doc, but for more reading:

I’ve divided the 17 letters into the seven basic groupings found in traditional Chinese phonological works, based on place and manner of articulation.

1. ㄱ ㅋ ㆁ
2. ㄷ ㅌ ㄴ
3. ㅂ ㅍ ㅁ
4. ㅈ ㅊ ㅅ
5. ㆆ ㅎ ㅇ
6. ㄹ
7. ㅿ

And sure enough, the letters were presented in a clear and logical order, based on traditional Chinese phonological principles.

Here is a chart from one of the medieval Chinese rime tables, the Qièyùn Zhĭzhǎngtú 切韻指掌圖 of 1203. (This is a 19th-century reprint.)

Same, but neither sounds quite right to me.

There's something phonological going on for me, where 1-2 syllable words + comparative -er/-est seem okay if they end in /i/ but very bad if they end in /d,t/.

funnier, nastier, hastier, jumpier, etc 💯
doner, brokener, hiddener 👍
chaster, filleder 😕

The first problem comes from "ao". There's a phonological merger of two, originally distinct words: on the one hand, Oceanic *qaco → Polynesian *ʔaho: "day, daylight" (and, in Eastern Polynesian "the mortal world, world, earth, universe");
