#phytophthora
Hello friends of science! I’m migrating over here from X. There, I had 3,000 followers enjoying plant pathology content! Please help me rebuild. I’ll post plant disease photos, management info, science & nature content. Kicking off with some tomato late blight caused by Phytophthora infestans.

🧪 Where did the potato blight come from? 🥔

Researchers have now traced the origins of Phytophthora infestans - the cause of the Irish Potato Famine - to the Andes.

A pangenome analysis reveals the center of origin and evolutionary history of Phytophthora infestans and 1c clade species
We examined the evolutionary history of Phytophthora infestans and its close relatives in the 1c clade. We used whole genome sequence data from 69 isolates of Phytophthora species in the 1c clade and ...

Singing the Fields of Athenry to a man who has personally caused more famine than Phytophthora Infestans has in its entire career is a helluva of a way to miss the point
Golf fans serenaded Donald Trump with renditions of popular songs and chanted 'USA' as the US president made a brief appearance in the hotel residents' bar at Doonbeg Saturday night.

Preserving the Biologically Coherent Generic Concept of Phytophthora, ‘Plant Destroyer’ | Phytopathology®
Phytophthora is a long-established, well known and globally important genus of plant pathogens. Phylogenetic evidence has shown that the biologically distinct, obligate biotrophic downy mildews evolve...

“Our Irish Potato Famine game puts the ‘fest’ back in Phytophthora infestans!”
While I love my niche stupid hobby of historical board gaming, sometimes it does just make me want to scream. Take the latest example, a board game about the Irish Potato Famine where you get to compete with friends to see who survives best (?)

Фитопатология вообще отдельная тема моего увлечения.

Во-первых покупая цветочки обращайте внимание не их состояние. Если видите паутину, белый налет, то цветок заражен.

Tomato blight is a fast-spreading fungal disease triggered by warm, wet weather. It turns leaves brown/rotten & ruins fruit on the vine.

To stop it:
🍅 Water only the soil (not the leaves)
🍅 Space plants out for good airflow
🍅 Remove lower leaves
🍅 Trim & destroy infected parts ASAP (don't compost!)
