#PlasticWaste and #PlasticWaste

So many myths about #PlasticWaste and #PlasticPollution. It can't really be recycled, only downcycled. Not for a #CircularEconomy.

Corruption in the UK waste sector is bad enough. Exporting plastic overseas where it is not recycled shifts environmental and public health harm onto others.

Government is considering, reviewing and consulting ... well that is something. Although meanwhile the planet, and country, is further choked with #PlasticWaste and #PlasticPollution

If plastic is labelled as recycled, it must genuinely be recycled and produced under proper environmental and labour standards.

The Government should assess the EU proposals carefully — and match them to protect people and planet.

On this #ChokedPlanet, we are just starting to come to grips with the impacts of #PlasticWaste and #PlasticPollution, and their impacts on #PublicHealth
Microplastics (mp) have been linked to stroke but mechanisms unknown. In mice, mp were phagocytosed & detected in altered phagocytes in the blood that could cause blockages in small blood vessels and thrombi linked with transient alterations in brain.🧪
Microplastics in the bloodstream can induce cerebral thrombosis by causing cell obstruction and lead to neurobehavioral abnormalities
Microplastics get in the blood and are eaten by immune cells, leading to cell obstruction and cerebral thrombosis.

Microplastics are so ubiquitous in the environment that some scientists think we should track how they cycle through the global oceans, atmosphere, and soil much in the same way we track carbon and phosphorus. 🧪
