Like bacteria, phages use sRNAs to regulate gene expression! Out today in @cp-trendsmicrobiol.bsky.social, @mvelascogomariz.bsky.social and I highlight a recent RIL-seq study from the @saharmelamed.bsky.social lab that looked into posttranscriptional regulation of lambda!

Had to look up an old paper to get the doi. It still completely boggles my mind that TWO Nobel prizes have been given for small RNAs and this work wasn't recognized by either. Abstract is literally like "yeah, we found these tiny antisense RNAs and think they're probably causing gene silencing"

you think we know all about post·transcriptional control that modulates mRNA translatability (sRNA, riboswitches,...) – then tackle yet another level: tRNA/rRNA modifications that modulate mRNA translatability under stress 👇

Proud to see our work featured in this Spotlight in @cp-trendsmicrobiol.bsky.social by @mvelascogomariz.bsky.social and @jenshoer.bsky.social!
They highlight how phage infection involves surprisingly rich posttranscriptional regulatory networks and sRNA-based regulation.
Thank you for the spotlight!

Always a pleasure to work with the @archaellum.bsky.social lab - diving into the regulation of cell motility & shape in Haloferax this time. On our side, @felixgrunberger.bsky.social was the RNAseq guru again. Shoutout also to Anita Marchfelder (giving a posttranscriptional twist to the story).
This work started as a bachelor project and @1nussi1.bsky.social and @felixgrunberger.bsky.social showed that CsmR is a very interesting regulator important for controlling motiliy and cellshape in Haloferax volcanii.
