Geography skills need updating. #Curriculumreview #greenskills. #enquiry (currently not mentioned explicitly #primaryGeography but should be) matters & when done well involves critical thinking & decision- making / action, giving agency in purposeful contexts.

IMO #primaryGeography curriculum already has implicit teaching opps re #climatecrisis as you can’t teach human, physical & environmental interactions in a meaningful way otherwise but it needs to be explicit. We should keep strong foundations of learning re weather & climate as part of progression.

Just a reminder that the #CurriculumReview call for evidence ends next week if you haven’t already contributed. I’m going to add a thread of things on my mind as someone passionate about #primarygeography

Busy planning a Geography unit - a local area study for Year 2. I've already managed to link in several books and plan in two fieldwork sessions but always looking for new ideas. What are your favourite things to do when studying the local area? #PrimaryGeography

Fantastic #primarygeography in the woods today, mapping the stream habitats, flow and erosion and deposition. It was a fantastic experience for the Year 6 and for me!

Well worth having a look what's around your area and thinking how it might fit with your curriculum.

Even something no longer visible could be an exciting hook into a subject.
Part of my walk today was to visit Catstones Ring/Blood Dykes to see what could be seen.

I couldn't see anything of this earthwork which may have been a Roman camp or an older iron age structure.

You can see it on the LiDAR map though! www.archiuk.com

❤️this What a lovely idea to communicate significant landmarks in local places #children’sgeographies #placeresponses #primarygeography
I’ve been up to Hambridge Primary in Somerset today to help the Yr 4/5/6 children create a welcome sign. We’ve used local landmark ‘Burrow Hill’ as the inspiration. 😁 👍
