This afternoon I visited the Crumlin Road Gaol (also known as HMP Belfast). It was opened in 1846 and eventually housed 1,500 men, women and children, although designed for 500 inmates. It is now a tourist attraction offering a fascinating insight into life behind its bars. #prisonhistory #Belfast

🔎 Recently I visited the Crumlin Road Gaol experience in Belfast, which was excellent – it's a typical Victorian prison but with a dark past. In today's Substack article I reveal what's behind those infamous gates
