5x/wk psychoanalysis just for the jouissance. there's not even anything wrong with me
question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

guys will reinvent vulgar psychoanalysis every generation and think they're geniuses. read a book brother we have made a lot progress in psychology beyond Freud.
I've been toying around a lot with the idea of libidinal rationality, which is when people act not according to strict rationality of maximising profit or returns or sustainability, but toward what provides them with libidinal satisfaction, which trumps everything else
We've lived for so long with this mythology that sure, the wealthy can be cruel. But at least the cruelty has a point. Profit!

I'd like us to open our hearts to other possibilities.

Power doesn't just corrupt! It can also breed truly reality-distorting levels of incompetence.

As for psychoanalysis, most Americans have limited understanding of Freud and Lacan. There are reasons for this that are historical, cultural, etc. But the upshot is the absolute rejection of the unconscious, the founding hypothesis of psychoanalysis.

Kristin's essay understands psychoanalysis, homeopathy, rage, humor, all of the archives, poetry, and also how you get "from ordinary calamities, a cut thumb or dead father or collapsed marriage, to the camps and the bomb."

It's so good, what are you waiting for?

I search for ‘psychoanalysis of Baudelaire’, and the search results are all student cheat sheets and dumb “analysis” which contain almost identical garbage. The internet is so broken.

Yes, psychoanalysis is excluded from mainstream science. This doesn’t really mean anything. The question is why. Psychoanalysis is not a science. It is a discourse, a logical discourse. But Americans have a tendency to fetishize science to the point of scientism. Thus only science confers validity.

There is too much trauma dumping and psychoanalysis in this thread about pretending to be a lion who eats people online so I'm ending this by saying that as you've been reading this I've snuck up behind you and I'm going to bite you when you get to this part of the thread, have a good day!

The pop cultural understanding of Freud with which he & psychoanalysis are dismissed doesn’t bare much resemblance to the real deal

Also there’s now over a century of psychoanalytic theorizing that is almost entirely unknown except weirdly that Lacan got picked up by the critical theory people

My totally armchair worthless psychoanalysis of Tom Cruise in his Digger era is that his attachment to Inarritu is some kind of sublimation of his real desire which is to work with Paul Thomas Anderson again.
