Excitement on the walk home today - a new psyllid for Norfolk! This is Olive Psyllid, Euphyllura olivina, a non-native species that feeds on Olive. It doesn't appear to be on UKSI (at least I can't see it on NBN Atlas). It was smaller than I had expected! #NorfolkPsyllids

First day on here!

How do I get added to ento and science starter packs?

I offer a beautiful psyllid (Creiis longipennis) emerging from its lerp and nymph, I guess 😍

An unfortunate fate for a hornbeam psyllid (Psylla carpinicola), caught in the web. The spider is likely Emblyna, one of the many common meshweb weavers. I want to focus stack all of the webbing one day.

First attempts at drawing psyllids. These are odd looking bugs. Working from reference photos is OK if you have a good knowledge of the anatomy of what you are drawing. Psyllids are new to me so I really need a specimen as well to work out how they go together.

Had a quick scan of Laburnum trees in Earlham Cemetery for @norwichbirder.bsky.social in the much needed rain this morning. On both sides of the ring road found Livilla variegata, adults (some teneral) and nymphs. Two adults were observed secreting wax balls (2nd photo).

Another psyllid species new to Norfolk! I noticed these leaf-roll galls on Poplar yesterday but thought they were probably early aphid galls. Fortunately I had a closer look and the inhabitants were psyllid nymphs! These are Camarotoscena speciosa (bladmineerders.nl/parasites/an...) #NorfolkPsyllids

2025 was a good year for psyllid recording. Each of these were new ones for me and the latter three were new to Norfolk: Cacopsylla mali on Apple, Homotoma ficus nymph on Fig, Euphyllura olivina on Olive and Camarotoscena speciosa nymph on Poplar. #NorfolkPsyllids

This is a psyllid or jumping plant louse, an aphid-size, sap-feeding bug (superfamily Psylloidea). Not sure why the sexy-dance - maybe it’s sending out pheromones, or maybe it’s just gotta shake that groove thing because it knows it’s #InverteFest 🐙🌿💃🕺

I've been looking for the distinctive gall on Red Valerian caused by the Psyllid Trioza centranthi for years, so pleased to finally find it in my garden.

Two psyllid highlights. Aphalara maculipennis is interesting - the RES handbook lists it as "rare, known only from Aviemore, Scotland". There are no NBN records, so could this be new to England?! Cacopsylla visci, found by @vannabartlett.bsky.social , was the first Norfolk record for c100 years.

Star find from Cumbria last week: the psyllid Craspedolepta subpunctata on Rosebay Willowherb at Sandscale Haws. Saw several mating pairs, all of which had produced a wax globule as seen in first 2 photos.

Regularly checking the house wall pays off again: the psyllid Trioza urticae found today. Said to be common, even ubiquitous, but this is my first.

This small psyllid was found by @vannabartlett.bsky.social earlier in the week. I've keyed it out today as Ctenarytaina spatulata, new to Norfolk. It was first recorded in Britain using aerial suction traps, raising the possibility it has arrived on air currents from the continent. #NorfolkPsyllids

Another psyllid seen at Whitlingham CP at the weekend was Psylla alni, probably our largest psyllid and associated with Alder. This one was rather randomly resting on a Walnut leaf, but given the excellent colour match with the leaf it was probably a good way of avoiding predators. #NorfolkPsyllid

I just spooked a citrus psyllid off of my lemon tree and it flew into a web and a spider hurried over to claim it. Truly a beautiful moment of teamwork.

Gall of the week, maybe as prominent as last week's robin's pin cushion, is the tassel gall caused by a psyllid, Livia junci, on rushes, Juncus spp.
