this was way more prevalent when i was still on tiktok but it feels like people are getting really weird about alcohol, coffee, anything that might make you happy--even in innocuous amounts! feels like we're re-engineering puritanism as a method of maintaining control (over ourselves, each other)
starting to feel like there's a direct relationship between the growing obsession with lifestyle hygeine (no drinking, no caffeine, no sex, obsessive working out and looksmaxxing) and the inability to meaningful moral stands on issues of actual import
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

Spent my afternoon re-engineering my high school band's sole EP. The source material was an MP3 made from a cassette, and also, we were terrible. When I was done, we were terrible, but you can hear how terrible we were much more clearly. Modern technology comes through!

I highly value engineering and re-engineering a game's code, design, and aesthetic holistically in tandem. AI coding basically throws a bomb right into the middle of that for me. So then it's basically only useful for stuff I would otherwise google - not worth the astronomical costs for me

a lot of re-releases/remasters/enhanced ports either leverage the labor of emulator enthusiasts or are the product of reverse engineering
it's not just that. many of the companies did a poor job of archiving the source code of their games and almost had to develop from scratch. (Square-Enix & Konami are notorious ex). there are other factors like the ps2's emotion engine being incomparable to contemporary ones, but I'm digressing.
fwiw I think this is why remakes and remasters often fall flat.

A relevant piece of context here re: Northwestern is they’ve had a vocal Holocaust denier on faculty for decades. Never did anything. But profs who showed solidarity with anti-genocide students are gone now.
I recall students protesting Butz in the early 90s. Still listed as faculty.
