You've got your crew, the basketball's pumped, & you're ready to play – until you get to the #reccenter & see the locked doors.

Right now, #DC's #recreation, #aquatic, & #community centers are closed on Sundays. We're an active city, & our public facilities should be accessible.

My thought/hope is a bus even a small shuttle would stretch the longevity of the road so we don’t end up with Orem-esque stroads cutting though town. I pitched it to one Councilman who also loved the idea that kids could hop this to get to the new RecCenter on their own.

I do love getting to explain to #HottiePainShotDoctor that his #hamont paitents cant do water therapy because City Hall cant offer a #livingwage to #lifeguards for covering the #RecCenter pools that sit empty all day and night.

It was awesome seeing the entire RR community come together one last time before shutdown, and I'm glad that it ended this way. Everyone in the RecCenter that I saw was being normal and not being weirdos too which was nice

So many options to choose from! Nick from the Recreation Center says his favorite event they host is the “Rec Campfire Nights because they even let [him] take a break from the shift and enjoy it!”

So no free #pool time at all at my #recCenter anymore let alone for #disability users, who cant fight for space. Need to stretch and do physio, not argue about space with bored biddies who just want to bob around. And NO, i cant go elsewhere, i cant DRIVE.

Spent a lovely morning with the family watching tennis at the Koser Jewelers Challenger (W100) in Landisville, Pennsylvania

Its been a hard week for the tournament with so much rain, but the tennis was high quality. Fun to see Hanne Vandewinkel's and Caroline Dolehide's matches

Rec Room closes its doors on June 1, but unfortunately new account creation has been disabled as of yesterday. Since we are unable to host an accessible event in Rec Room itself, we will be ending the night with a recreation of Rec Room's RecCenter in VRChat.

Community leaders seek to raise money for Hempfield recCenter expansion as annual visits top 100,000
When: East Hempfield Township Board of Supervisors meeting, May 20. What happened: Hempfield Area Recreation Commission leaders are exploring ways to raise money to expand the Hempfield recCenter at 1251 Stony Battery Road, said Jeff Book, the facility’s executive director. Quotable: “We’re growing so rapidly,” Book said, noting the center had 6,567 members in March, up 2,220 members from the 4,377 people who belonged in March 2022. “We’re at the point where we can’t just keep fixing what we have,” he said. About 100,000 people visit the center each year. Possibilities: Executives may consider enlarging the fitness center, adding a second pool and building an additional gym in a building that now covers about 105,000 square feet, Book said after the meeting. Timeline: The center should have fundraising recommendations from a consultant by June, Book said. Leaders will spend the summer deciding what renovations should occur, how much money it will cost and what financing options exist, he said. Quotable: “We’ve really got to look at that and look at the final scope of work. Does it change? Does it grow?” Book said during the meeting. Detail: Officials plan to hire a construction company next fall, Book said. Vehicles first: The center’s first step must be making more room for vehicles, though. Quotable: “We’re just running out of parking,” Book told council members, explaining that spaces disappear quickly during evening hours. “We’re trying to work the two projects together, but our goal is to really hit the parking lot before we actually do the actual physical building.” Money: Donations, grants and sponsorships should help pay for improvements, Book said. Quotable: “Townships have a responsibility to provide recreation opportunities for the community,” Chair Bob Johnson said after the meeting. Johnson also serves as vice president of the RecCenter’s board of directors. “I think Hempfield is fortunate to have a partner like Hempfield Rec that provides such a wide variety of programs to so many people.” Background: The rec center, formed in 1978, now operates under a partnership with East Hempfield Township, which owns the building and the land it sits on. East Hempfield charges the center $1 per rent per year, and the two entities renewed a 25-year lease last year. More info: East and West Hempfield townships, Mountville and East Petersburg boroughs and the Hempfield School District fund the center, each paying $212 per resident. Details: The recCenter offers swimming, tennis, fitness, before- and after-school childcare and summer camps in addition to other programs. The recreation commission also manages nine parks in East and West Hempfield and runs the East Petersburg Borough Community Pool, Book said. Next: Supervisors will meet at 6 p.m. June 3 at the municipal building, 1700 Nissley Road, Landisville. The public can view meetings on the township’s YouTube channel by accessing a link on the East Hempfield Township website. e

Come enjoy us on our outing. Perfect spot for kiddos 1-8ish. Swings, slides, and near by is a spot for soccer, volleyball, football and fishing. This spot is close to Brighton Recreation Center. There is also little library.
