Canada and US should act now to protect food refrigeration systems from similar attacks. The perpetrators remain unidentified; state sponsored hackers cannot be ruled out. These incidents show how compromised refrigeration can disrupt food supplies; a longer attack would cause far greater losses.
Cyberattacks hit supermarket refrigeration across Europe, forcing stores to destroy food. Belgium opened a criminal investigation. Danfoss confirmed retired controllers targeted in October were involved again, weeks after a similar attack in France.

As a cyber person, want to point out some nuances here:

1. There are real legitimate reasons for commercial grade freezers and fridges to be networked (remote monitoring, stock tracking, temperature safety logging)

2. These hacked refrigeration units aren't necessarily exposed on the internet.
