Over 100 joined the annual Reclaim Our Moors walk on the Duke of Rutland’s Moscar Moor this morning. Land stolen from the people 200 years ago. Driven grouse shooting must end. We need to restore and rewet our uplands. @raptorpersuk.bsky.social @ruthtingay.bsky.social @guyshrubsole.bsky.social

Obviously all of Dartmoor cannot be rainforest, nor should it be. The 8500ha of Blanket Bog, just for starters.

Rewet the Bog, and it won't burn.

An innovative scheme to rapidly rewet peat on upland moors is protecting landscapes and communities from extremes such as wildfire and flooding..

The way we deal with Molinia is to rewet and restore the peat and regain balance to the blanket bogs.

Drained peatlands cover 2% of EU farmland but produce 80% of agricultural GHG emissions. At the #ALFAwetlands #REWET Final Conference, a new policy brief showed why rewetting can cut emissions, restore biodiversity and store water! 🔗 Link below.

Dartmoor is dying - it's time to bring it back to life.

Today the Dartmoor Nature Alliance publish a new call to action to restore Dartmoor's habitats: rewet peat bogs, revive heaths by reducing grazing, double temperate rainforest area

The flooding had already begun. It will always be like this, getting worse and worse, until we decarbonise, rewet, and ideally depave a fair bit.
Drought stricken soil is baked solid, water cannot sink in. This is how we go from deadly heatwaves to flash floods that wash away whole communities.

We’re planning major wetland restorations in Bath and elsewhere to slow that water down.

As George says, a key way of stopping the spread of Molinia is to rewet peat bogs - dried and degraded after centuries of drainage and burning.

Returning trees to river valleys & steeper slopes on Dartmoor would also restore temperate rainforest, shading out Molinia grass.

The idea that we wouldn't have to respond to climate breakdown was always nonsense..we had (and still to an extent have) 2 choices. Either we respond preemptively reduce emissions, restore habitats, rewet land, plan our food system based on need not market forces or ...

The @Teagasc ReWet Team had a field day with @flo_renouwilson learning how to classify our transition zone #Peatland sites using @ProjectAuger methods.

It was great to get some learnings which will be taken to the other #ReWet sites!

Sneezewort, Achillea ptarmica. A lovely plant of "damp or wet, infertile, acidic habitats" - plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9...
Should be common but has declined markedly due to land drainage in particular. Time to #rewet & #restore damp & wet habitats.

the only way i ever found to fix this was to rewet it - pitcher of water over the tub or kitchen sink gun were the easiest way

it’s fine to rewet it, especially if you have like extensive styling needs. i usually keep mine dry tho

Rewetting agriculturally used peatland - same challenge in your country as in 🇩🇪 & in the 🇪🇺?

🚜 Nur sieben Prozent der Agrarfläche in Deutschland sind entwässerte, landwirtschaftlich genutzte Moore. Diese setzen rund 40 Prozent der Treibhausgase (THG) aus der Landwirtschaft frei. 1/6

We couldn’t resist hopping on this trend! 👶

Who knew these tiny humans would grow up to secure grants, look after nature reserves, connect landscapes, rewet peatland to name a few and occasionally hop on trends like this just for fun? 💚
